Surgical Explorers

Explorers are used to look for decay in tooth. Dentists check for small or
beginning decay by gently running the explorer tip over all the crown of the
teeth. The explorers are flexible and resistant to breakage. Certain
explorers have longer shank to explore deeper pockets and assess deposits on
the root surface.
Most medical explorers have a balanced tip design. Their working end is
centered over the long axis of the handle. This allows the dentist to apply
force to the working end without having to re-adjust the position of the
instrument.
