Blood Pressure Equipment

Blood pressure equipment or sphygmomanometer are used for measuring and
monitoring blood pressure. There are three types: mercury, aneroid and
automatic
Mercury Sphygmomanometer - This is the most common blood pressure
measurement equipment. It's durable, easy to read and doesn't need to be
readjustment. The mechanism works by gravity and gives consistent, accurate
readings. It has a long, tubular gauge made of glass or plastic.
Disadvantages of this type are that is bulky, and needs a firm flat surface
when being used.
Aneroid Sphygmomanometer- It is a portable type lightweight meter
with a dial gauge. Some even have a built in stethoscope. It is not as
reliable as the mercury type and has to be checked for the accuracy.
Automatic equipment - This is contained in one unit very easy to
handle. It leaves very less chance for human error. The cuff may fit around
the wrist or arm. More expensive models have automatic inflation and
deflation systems. The major disadvantage is that Complex, fragile and
sensitive to body movements. Automatic meters are of three types namely
Manual Inflation Monitors, Automatic Inflation Monitors With Fuzzy Logic,
Wrist Monitors
